The sincerely customer service of ToCoo! Travel (hotel service and rental car service) made us enjoy the trip in Japan. Also, The best effort of the reply from ToCoo! Travel is remarkable.

Shunko So

April 02 to 03, 2006  Shunko So    Location: Ashigarashimo-gun, Kanagawa

This was the nicest Japanese-style inn I have ever stayed at. The building is very traditional and many parts of it feel like a museum. There are flowers, paintings, and many pieces of art in every hallway and corner. The onsen was clean and I knew the water was naturally heated because it was so hot! The service was perfect and the staff was very helpful to give me directions to some museums and places in Hakone. Shunko So is one of the best places to experience the real traditional Japan.

B&B Pansion Hakone

April 01 to 02, 2006  B&B Pansion Hakone    Location: Ashigarashimo-gun, Kanagawa

I was very surprised at the high quality of the B&B Pansion, with such a low price. They offered a free breakfast, and the room was quite large. Checking in and out was very easy, and it's easy to get to the Unison Swimming Resort from the B&B.

Rose Hotel Yokohama

March 31 to April 01, 2006  Rose Hotel Yokohama    Location: Yokoahama-shi, Kanagawa

This is a beautiful and very fancy hotel. The service was perfect and everything about the hotel was 5-star. The price for the room was very good, and because I used a non-smoking room, they offered me a free upgrade. The Rose Hotel is located very conveniently in the middle of Yokohama's China-Town, and it was easy to find.

To ToCoo! Travel Customer Support,
I have used ToCoo! Travel for about 2 years now, after a friend of mine (he is British) recommended it to me. I am an English teacher from America, and I have lived in Niigata-ken for 3 years.
The reservation process for ToCoo! is always very quick and simple. I chose the hotels I would like to stay at, gave some information about the type of rooms, and then the next day I received an e-mail about whether these hotels had rooms available. If they didn't I just asked about alternate hotels, and if there was room it was set up by the next day. The best word for it is: painless!
I traveled to Yokohama and Hakone. I had a great time in both cities, and was able to find the museums and sites I wanted to see very easily. Hakone was especially nice, and includes a lot of sights that most foreign people don't get a chance to see, because there is not a lot of English in the area, in terms of maps and signs. If you can speak Japanese or can travel with a Japanese friend, Hakone is an excellent place to visit for a few days.
ToCoo! Travel is one of the easiest sites I have ever used to research and plan a trip in Japan. All you have to do is decide where you want to go and for how long, and ToCoo! does the rest of the work for you.
Thank you for all your help!

B&B Pansion Hakone

March 23 to 25, 2006  Hakodate Park Hotel     Location: Hakodate-shi, Hokkaido

At my second visit to Hakodate I choose the Park Hotel because they have a public bath, which I enjoy very much. It's the bath where you after a thorough shower can sink down in a small pool with hot water and just relax for a few minutes. Try it, it's wonderful. I had booked a single room but was offered a twin room. The room didn't have a refrigerator and the TV-set wasn't working very well. A phone call and a few minutes of waiting and I had a new twin room at the price of a single. They had a nice yaki-tori restaurant on the first floor. Just around the corner was a small shop, type 7-eleven. You can easily reach the hotel by tram. The tram station is 1 min. walk from the JR station. Take the tram bound for Yunokawa, get off at the 3rd stop Chitose-cho. Walk 120 metres ahead and then down to the left about 100 metres on Shinakawa Hijiro? Avenue and you will find the hotel.

Sapporo-shi, Hokkaido

April 22 to 23, 2006  Sapporo-shi, Hokkaido    Location: Ashigarashimo-gun, Kanagawa

I stayed in Sapporo for less than 24 hours. The Weekly Sho Susukino was perfect at a very reasonable price. Maybe the room was a little bit smaller than in the other hotels I visited but the standard was the same. You can use their breakfast room during the day to sit down and eat food that you had bought in the city. I believe tea and coffee was free of charge. Each floor had a microwave oven. I took the subway as described on ToCoo!s page for the hotel. It was so close to the station that I passed it a few times before I asked for the way and found out that I was standing 5 metres away.

Aqua Garden Hotel Hakodate

March 21 to 22, 2006  Aqua Garden Hotel Hakodate    Location: Hakodate-shi, Hokkaido

I choose this hotel because of the nearness to the JR train station. About 5 mins walk, down to the tram station and 150 metres to the right past a small post office. There was an Internet corner in the lobby, free of charge, and I was allowed to use it even 2 days after I had checked out. They let me leave my luggage there while I went to Sapporo, although I didn't check in to their hotel again. On the first floor they had a restaurant with good tasting fried prawns (ebi fry).

Hello ToCoo! Travel,
This is my answer to your request for comments on my trip to Japan. I am afraid that when somebody asks me to write something, I usually write too much, therefore, please feel free to cut, paste and use whatever you like.
As always in Japan the hotels where clean, nice and tidy. The staff spoke no, or very little English, but that didn't stop them in their efforts to help you.

-HAKODATE-
Visit the tourist info centre at the JR rail station, for city maps, find directions to hotel etc. I recommend that you buy a 1-day tram ticket for 600 yen. The tram will take you to most of the sightseeing spots in the city. You will get a small booklet with a route map. Information onboard is in Japanese and English. The Hakodate-yama (mountain) gives you a fantastic night view of the city. The rope way takes about 3 min and the return ticket costs 1200 yen, you will get a small discount with the 1-day tram ticket. Visit the Goryokaku Park where the samurai lost their last battle in 1869. Goryokaku Tower will give you a good view over the area. The tower is 60 m high. In mid April 2006 a new tower will be opened, about 100 m high.

-SAPPORO-
During my short stay, in March cold and snowy, I saw the Red Brick, the old Hokkaido Government building. The clock tower (1878), Tokei-dai, the symbol of Sapporo. There is a small museum inside. From the bus terminal stop no. 4,(at the north exit of JR station) there was a free shuttle bus to the Ario shopping centre. Next to Ario you will find Sapporo Beer Museum and Sapporo Beer Garden. The museum will show you the history of Sapporo Beer from 1876. In the beer garden you can enjoy fresh draft beer and food, surrounded by over 100 years old brick walls. You will get all information at the tourist info centre inside the JR station.

The RESERVATION PROCESS was very easy and efficient once you started it. I didn't have to wait long before ToCoo! Travel came with their confirmation. Print out the first page on the hotel that you will book, there you have all the information that is asked for, i.e. type of room, season etc. I also suggest you keep the picture of the hotel with you when you are going there. It will make it easier to find it if you don't go by taxi.

THE WHOLE IDEA WITH TOCOO! TRAVEL is perfect. You don't have to visit a lot of different Internet sites, if your lucky they cover the places you intend to visit and you have only one part to talk with. All the prices mentioned by ToCoo! Travel were correct. The rooms and facilities/amenities were as described ToCoo!s Travel's I-net pages. I had one city, Hirosaki, on my travel plan where ToCoo! Travel didn't have any hotel, but they where kind enough to help me with phone/fax numbers to the hotel I liked to book and everything went out to my satisfaction. I like to read about the tips of different sightseeing spots that come with the weekly newsletter.

Thank you for this time ToCoo! Travel, I will be happy contact you again when I am planning my next trip to Japan.

The room was very comfortable , spacious and the service was perfect. And very important too: this hotel is well located. Only one thing could be changed, it was too hot in the room. We appreciate our stay in this hotel and recommend it to everyone who wants to spend few days in Senday. We visited Sendai , matsushima .

It was a great pleasure to use your services. We enjoyed our trip very much. Concerning the reservation process we had no trouble and it was easy. Many thanks to Club Tocoo, then we spent a very nice week in tohoku area.

Ekimae Hotel Adachi

February 27&28, March 5&6 2006  Ekimae Hotel Adachi     Location: Kushiro, Hokkaido

Hi, Thanks for email. The hotel I booked was good. I found the reservation process worked very well & next time I'am in Japan I will use it again. The area & city I travelled were very enjoyable. I also booked rental cars through you in both Hokkaido & Okinawa. This worked well. My only criticism was with the inability to arrange a 4X4 in Kushiro which I needed. However it all worked out ok in the end. The car on Okinawa was a 4X4 which was excellent! Overall I found ToCoo very good to use & when I did have problems in the booking process..you responded promptly to emails which is important. Thanks,

Weekly Sho Susukino

February 7, 2006  Weekly Sho Susukino    Location: Sapporo, Hokkaido

Dear ToCoo! Travel, Thank you for your email. I am delighted to give you feedback on your services. As you are probably aware, this last booking at Weekly Sho Susukino was the 6th time I have booked through you. 3 times for Mazda car rental and 3 times for hotel accommodation. I find the services you offer to be of good value and your booking system very efficient. I have recommended your web site and services to many others who are likely to return to Japan in the future. I will be coming again at the end of April and will definitely be booking through you. The Weekly Sho Susukino is ideal for me. Last week was our 2nd stay there. It is at a very good location - main street and next to the subway station. It is not far from the Chuo bus stop for the Chitose Airport bus. It is close to all the restaurants in Susukino. The reception staff are very friendly and efficient. The hotel is clean and had good washing machine and dryer facility. The room we had was good in size and had everything we needed. Breakfast provided was very adequate. When we travel, we do not require big and expensive rooms! I will definitely stay there again when visiting Sapporo. This last trip, we stayed 17 nights at Niseko and 4 nights in Sapporo. Loved it. Thank you ToCoo! Travel. Regards,

Hotel Cypress Karuizawa

February 2, 2006  Hotel Cypress Karuizawa    Location: Karuizawa, Nagano

Hi, Hotel Cypress is a nice hotel. However the customers should be reminded before hand Cypress offers free shuttle bus from JR station to the hotel. It would be a great value especially when it snows and you have to carry big bags. thanks,

Norikura-no-yado Mai

December 11, 2004  Norikura-no-yado Mai    Location: Norikura-kogen Onsen, Nagano

My husband and I had a wonderful stay at Norikura-no-Yado Mai. The staff spoke little English but did their best to speak slowly and clearly so that we could understand with our limited Japanese. Dinner around the irori was really special and the baths wonderfully relaxing. Loved the massaging chair too! A very romantic setting with the snow surrounding the hotel; ideal for our wedding anniversary. Thankyou so much for a memorable weekend.

Ikaruga Hotel

November 20, 2004  Ikaruga Hotel    Location: Yamato-kooriyama, Nara

Price is right and people are friendly, but not built for comfort. Bring earplugs because it's right next to a very busy and noisy highway. Big room has no telephone, frosted windows cannot be opened, toilet has to be navigated sideways unless you have very short legs, floor is bare linoleum, bathroom painted dark green. You get the picture. Definitely an experience, but not for those looking forward to a good night's rest.

Sumisho Hotel

November 19, 2004  Sumisho Hotel    Location: Nihonbashi, Tokyo

The hotel was fairly average, but in relation with the price since it was very cheap. People at the reception were helpful. However there is a 1.00AM curfew at night which can perhaps be arranged with the receptionnist. It did not disturb me but it might on another trip or for other people. I did not walk around the area much, but it is not far from Ginza or Tokyo station by train/subway so it is practical.

Tocoo club is fantastic! They confirmed me the hotel reservation my very fast. The Hotel Yaegiku in Japan-Osaka is great. The rooms are big and very comfortable. I love the traditional tatami rooms and bathrooms. I had enjoyed and relaxed so much in the rooms. The people there are nice and helpful. I will definitely stay there again. Great!!

the b' roppongi

November 14, 2004  the b' roppongi (Formerly named 'Hotel Baden Roppongi')    Location: Roppongi, Tokyo

Hotel Baden Roppongi was elegant and beautiful. I didn't think the hotel staff was as courteous and helpful than the staff at other hotels I had stayed in. I also had a room with a noisy ventilator that kept me up at night.

Tokyo is a great city, probably my favorite city in Japan. I loved the nightlife in Roppongi.

People's Inn Hanakomichi

November 13, 2004  People's Inn Hanakomichi    Location: Nara City, Nara

We spent the weekend in Nara, staying at People's Inn Hanakomichi. The hotel was in a very convenient spot, within walking distance to all the major attractions. Unfortunately, we were not very pleased with the room. The heating had been on for quite some time when we arrived and the room was terribly hot. Despite turning the heat off and opening the window we could not cool it down and thus did not get much sleep that night. Our other problem was with the parking. Your website states the hotel has arrangements with both Shiba Motor Pool and Shibata Motor Pool. We parked at the latter and, when we went back for the car, were told there were no arangements with that car park so we had to pay a whopping 6000 yen. Please update your information so this doesn't happen to anyone else.

From ToCoo! Travel -- We are sorry for the misleading information about parking. We have updated the information.

Ocean View In Kibougaoka

November 13, 2004  Ocean View In Kibougaoka    Location: Onna-son, Okinawa

About Hotel Ocean View in Kibougaoka, reception and peole were very nice and friendly; speaking english to give information about the area. Room is large, clean and well decorated, it was very pleasant. We arrived late evening, associate restaurant was still open, service was good and friendly but foods were not so good. The hotel is not easy to find, location is OK in quiet area but without navigation system !!!!!! but Police is always very kind to help. I would recommend the hotel but not the restaurant.

Toyako Manseikaku

November 5, 2004  Toyako Manseikaku    Location: Toyako, Hokkaido

We stayed at Toyako Manseikaku for a night. Hotel is facing Lake Toya, which provides a wonderful view during breakfast. Room is exceptionally spacious, considering the standard room size in Japan. But buffet dinner was not very good as a lot of food was already cold, unless you bother to wait for replenishment. Onsen for men is at the basement, so there isn't much view for the outdoor onsen.

Kawaguchiko Hotel

November 1, 2004  Kawaguchiko Hotel    Location: Lake Kawaguchi, Yamanashi

The hotel we stayed at was Kawaguchiko Hotel. The hotel itself was a beatufil setting along the banks of Kawaguchiko, with lovely views of the lake. It was an easy walk to the activities along the lake shore (including the cable car ride)which were great for the children. We were hosting another family from Australia so there were 4 adults and 4 children and we went by car and stayed for 1 night. The Kawaguchiko area was fantastic and as we had lovely autumn weather, the views of Fiji San were unforgettable, especially at dusk. There was also a MOS burger and a Royal Host restaurant nearby, so we had no problems finding some western food for the children to eat. The hotel is old but the facilities were good, the people were super friendly and it was a comfortable stay in the tatami rooms. We had a great weekend.

Kyoto White Hotel

October 30, 2004   Kyoto White Hotel    Location: Kyoto City, Kyoto

Location is very convenient as it is very near Kyoto Station. Check-in was easy and we managed to have a pleasant "conversation" with the staff even though they spoke little English. Only problem is bath towels provided are really too small & thin to be effective. Jap style rooms may be a better choice as our western style room was really small and we had difficulty finding space to open our luggages.

Guest Inn Kyoto

October 15, 2004   Guest Inn Kyoto    Location: Kyoto City, Kyoto

The Guest Inn in Kyoto offers simple, budget friendly accomodations to the adventurous traveller. It's located close to Nishi Hogan-Ji temple and can be reached easily by bus from the Kyoto station. In general our 2 night stay at the Guest Inn was pleasant and we felt there was little to complain about. Although it's a hotel it feels a little more like a home.

Minshuku Asobei

October 14, 2004   Minshuku Asobei    Location: Aso, Kumamoto

I stayed one night at Minshuku Asobei in Kyushu. The reservation process was fine. It would have been useful to have more information about transport in the area. I asked tourist information before I left Kumamoto to ring the minshuku and arrange a lift, but to do this I had to find internet access to look up the phone number as it is not listed on tocoo, even though it says they will pick you up at the station!!! They staff were friendly and the room and surroundings very pleasant. A choice of food would be good as it is not good to eat Korean barbecue alone! I would use tocoo again and recommend the process and this particular hotel.

Kyoto White Hotel

October 14, 2004   Kyoto White Hotel     Location: Kyoto City, Kyoto

I have posted photos and details about this hotel at www.knowkyoto.com

The White Hotel is a great choice for the budget conscious traveller. You'll enjoy the fact that the hotel is so close to the Kyoto station which has a large underground shopping mall and also houses the Isetan department stores.

I would not reccomend this hotel to everyone but if you have limited money to spend and are OK with staying in a clean but less-than-perfect hotel, this is a good choice.

The reservation process at TooCoo! was completely painless. I will definietly use them in the future. We chose our hotels and in 24 hours we had confirmation. I reccommend turning off your email SPAM filters to ensure confirmation comes through. Also be sure to print and bring all the info with you.

Hotel Mashu

October 13, 2004   Hotel Mashu    Location: Mashu Onsen, Hokkaido

I traveled all over Hakaido for 20 days. The hotel I and my wife stayed was Hotel Mashu, we stayed for 2 nights. The hotel is located within a convientent driving distance between the 2 famous lakes. Despite the exterior of the hotel building is a bit old with peeling paint, the interior is reasonably clean and the room is spacious comparing with the average room size of hotels in Japan. In addition, it has a small osen for guest. The other merits of this hotel is that there are quite a lot of small Japanese restaurants within walking distance of this hotel.

The resevation process is OK, but it is a bit time consuming to repeat the same information to be inserted, for example, I have to repeat inserting my address, card No etc for my 3 bookings. it also seems to me that there are some info not relate to my booking and I need to insert, such as my address.

The web site of Tocoo is not user friendly, unlike other web site, it contains the essential info and the reservation Process is very simple.

One thing is strange, I thought I provided my credit card info and it was supposed to deduct the amount, but they was not, I have to pay when I check in.

Yaesu Fujiya Hotel

October 6, 2004   Yaesu Fujiya Hotel    Location: Yaesu, Tokyo

We have spent 3 nights at the Yaesu Fujiya hotel in Tokyo. We liked its convenient location, close to the Yamanote line and Tokyo station. Unfortunately, we got a smokers room although we are not smoking. Otherwise, the service was OK, although the room was somewhat small but that is usual for central city locations in Japan.

The price we received when booking using Tocoo! services was considerably lower compared to the one when booking directly.

Tsuribashi-so

September 30, 2004   Tsuribashi-so    Location: Izu Peninsula, Shizuoka

Great hotel in a good location. Particularly liked the baths and used the Green Tea bath. Great dinner too. Hotel also organises drop offs up the valley allowing access to walking tours. Had a problem with the bill - my fault! - as I forgot that the bathing tax wasn't included in the room.

One problem: no shops in the area and no restaurants open after 6pm. You should advise people to bring food with them. Also a bit remote for people without cars.

Gasthof Ami

September 20, 2004  Gasthof Ami    Location: Nikko, Tochigi

I would like to thank you for arranging the Gasthof Ami in Nikko for us. We really enjoyed staying there, the service and the meals were very good and making use of the hot spring was an added attraction of this accommodation. A nearby bus stop made travelling to and from Nikko an added convenience.

We have recommended Nikko to our circle of friends as place of beauty and an interesting history. Here is a gem for tourists, who would enjoy to visit a beautiful park, gardens, temples, a mausoleum, pagoda, etc. away from the concrete jungle of Tokyo, all within a two hour ride by train through some beautiful landscape.

Once more, we would like to thank for arranging the Gasthof Ami to us.

Ginza Tobu Hotel

September 12, 2004   Ginza Tobu Hotel    Location: Ginza, Tokyo

Your service is very efficient, we did save a lot of money. There were no problems at check-in at the hotels and the hotels were good hotels.

The one in ginza, Tokyo were a bit expensive but really nice. There are 2 things I would like to say about it. To use the internet cost 315 yen per 15minuts. That is quite expensive for something that are a service on other hotels and they charge you a "service-charge" on more than 2000 yen per day on top on everything else. It was a lot of money for us after spending 4 weeks in japan!!!!! It would have been nice to know in advance.

Kind regards

Hotel New Tanda

September 12, 2004   Hotel New Tanda     Location: Nagasaki City

My friend and I needed a room somewhere in central Nagasaki after travelling on the road for 2 days in Kyushu. We picked a twin at the Hotel New Tanda. The hotel itself was in a very convenient location, it was right by the Dutch Slope. Really nice. After an initial query about the reservation (Had I any vouchers or something?) by the hotel staff, it was cleared up by letting them make a copy of my printed e-mail. The room was a little old and basic but satisfactory, though we thought the carpets had seen better days... The staff were helpful, especially the car park attendent who directed us to the complimentary parking space below the building. It was really good value considering the location, as we were within walking distance of a lot of the attractions; the Glover Residence, Chinatown and the Bay.

It was very straightfoward booking the room on the internet and the response was prompt and quite helpful about my questions on parking. Thanks again for booking the room and the prices.

I'll be using your service again.

Petit Hotel Mermaid

September 11, 2004   Petit Hotel Mermaid     Location: Mt. Fuji, Yamanashi

It's a great hotel!
I've been to many onsen hotel in Japan and by far this is the best!

Only Max 2 hours drive from Tokyo. The service from the Staff is good. Although they speak little English, and I speak little Japanese we managed to sort some bookings errors. Although the water is artificial onsen; the private open air bath attached to the suite is great for you to enjoy your own private time. The view of the Fuji mountain is great from some of the rooms and from the Dinning hall. Most of all the price is good!

Definately I would recommend this to members or my friends!

I liked this hotel very much. It was quiet and the staffs were quite friendly. It is just a short distance away from the subway. The room was clean, though a bit small. One thing that I found a little strange was that I was not allowed to take a hot shower during certain times.

August 28, 2004   Resort Pension Yama-no-Ue     Location: So-unkyo Onsen, Hokkaido

The room and service was good, and the food was adequate in volume, but i was a little disapointed with the breakfast. The reservation process was smooth. The Sounkyou area is beautiful, and I recommend everyone to take the cable car and chairlift up, then hiking up the Kuro-dake. Great place, and easy to climb even for children, though quite cool, even in summer. I have been to this area in all seasons, and also recommend the skiing, which is unbeatable.

My stay at the Ohtemae Hotel was satisfactory but there was no desk staff available when I checked out at 6am so I am unclear if everything as regards payment was satisfactory and that my credit card deposit (as I paid cash on arrival) was duly cancelled or returned to my account. I would recommend and use your services again once I am satisfied that the advanced booking deposit was returned to my account.

The owner was very helpful: provided accurate information on how to go to Universal Studio, where to get breakfast since our package did not include breakfast and provided us with hot drinking water even very late at night. The surrounding environment is very pleasant especially there is a 24 hours convenient store very nearby. The hotel is not noisy at night. However, we hope the owner will look into two things: the air-conditioning system - need to check the temperature switch and the carpet - need a good shampoo.

Overall, we had enjoyed our stay in Osaka.

Oyado (Inn) EKUHASHI

August 20, 2004   Oyado (Inn) EKUHASHI     Location: Nemuro, Hokkaido

The hotel was very fine and beautiful, and the owner very gentle. The reservation problem was also okay. Nemuro is a nice place. If your money is short, near the hotel is a supermarket where you can eat for a very nice price. I think this service is good, because without the ToCoo! Travel , I would have had to pay twice the price of the reservation.

Skycourt Hakata

August 20, 2004   Skycourt Hakata     Location: Hakata, Fukuoka

I stayed at this hotel for two nights with another teacher friend. Within walking distance of Hakata station, we found the location prime for exploring the city and going out. The staff was helpful and efficient. Rooms were clean and in good working order. We had requested a semi-double room, but did not realize it contained only one bed, so requested a room change. The staff gave us two single rooms as regular doubles were filled, and made no attempt to overcharge for the change. Being a business hotel, it lacked personality but made up for it with convenience and good room prices, especially during the summer holiday season we were traveling. I'd stay there again and will use ToCoo! Travel for other possible travel in Japan.

Tsuribashi-so

August 20, 2004   Tsuribashi-so     Location: Izu Peninsula, Shizuoka

This was our first vist to an Onsen and our last night in Japan after being in Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya for a week. We absolutely loved it.

My wife and I paid extra for the Green Tea bath, but it was well worth it. Crossing the suspension bridge to get to it at night was fun although a little scary for my wife! To be able to sit in a bath of green tea by a rushing mountain stream while drinking cold green tea is an experience to be enjoyed. The staff were friendly and helpful. The owner actually drove us up the Spiral Highway on the way to the hotel just to show it to us! My limited Japanese was enough to be understood and the owner's wife spoke a little English, so communication was not a problem. The kaiseki ryori was spectacular as was breakfast. The only criticism we had was that the furniture in our could use updating as it looked a little worn. To sit in the Rotenburo on the roof of the Main Building watching the sunrise over the mountains was breathtaking. What a fabulous place!

Tsuribashi-so

August 19, 2004   Tsuribashi-so     Location: Izu Peninsula, Shizuoka

I found this place very charming and quaint and the staff were very friendly and helpful. My friends and I really enjoyed our whole experience there from the heavenly baths (both indoor and outdoor) to the food and service. I would especially like to mention the Green Tea bath which was a first time experience for me, as well as the friendly caretaker who took the time to explain to us what to do. Overall, it was great for us to take a break from our tiring journey and be treated like Princesses!

Fuji View Hotel

August 16, 2004   Fuji View Hotel     Location: Kawaguchiko, Mt. Fuji

I can not express how beautiful the lakeside view from our hotel was. It was so enchanting to be there among the magestic Mt. Fuji and the lake with local fishermen and boatsmen. The view was absolutely breathtaking. The service was also exceptional, and the hotel staff were very kind and polite. The reservation process was easy and the ToCoo! Travel staff were very helpful, answering all my questions and even accomodating changes.

The hotel was very close to the bus station for tours, and we chose to use the taxi too. Fujiku Highland theme park was also near the hotel, which was very enjoyable.

The hotel offered meals for dinner and breakfast, which was very nice. After a long day it was nice to bathe in the Onsen. The hotel is a little pricy, but well worth it.

Apical Inn Kyoto

August 15, 2004   Apical Inn Kyoto     Location: Kyoto City

I stayed at the Apical Inn in Kyoto for two nights, it was really easy to book the hotel and I had no problems with the reservation at all. The hotel was easy enough to get to from the subway line and it had a really nice public bathing area. The room itself was fine, clean and at a good price.

Urban Hotel Kyoto

August 11, 2004   Urban Hotel Kyoto     Location: Kyoto City

Hello Club Tocoo. Last month you reserved and I stayed one week in the Urban Hotel Kyoto. This hotel is located in the south of Kyoto and nearby the subway, JR station and Keihan railway station x also there is a bus stop in front of the hotel (with a bus line directly from/to Kyoto station ) So easy to reach. Also a taxi is easy to get but all Japanese pronounce the name from the hotel different than native speaking English people so be sure to have the name + address of the hotel on paper.

I had a very good stay in this good and clean hotel. The staff of the hotel did speak English good and were very friendly. Rooms were cleaned every day and with also clean towels every day. Ice-cubes/vending-machines and laundry-machine were located on a central place every second floor. Anyhow I had a very good impression of this hotel and I am sure to use it again in the future. Restaurants/supermarket are located nearby and also with a short trip to the main station of Kyoto every restaurant (also shops) available.

Thanks Club Tocoo for your good services and till the next time.

Ryokan Chizuru, was a great authentic Japanese inn, wonderful host, (they could speak no English, but we got by). Location of ryorkan was about 15mins walk from main city area.

Nice location to see Hakata, and to sample traditional Japanese hospitality.

Kame House

July 30, 2004   Kame House     Location: Ishigaki Island, Okinawa

I love nature, countryside, rusticity - anything that means being outside modern cities and organized sightseeing tours. And Ishigakijima, Kame House and the car we got from Mazda were simply EXQUISITE !!! The trailer (which is parked on its owner lot) was completely and wonderfully equipped not only with things you usually find in any hotel room (running water, electricity, and toilet - trailer, remember ? - towels, tooth brush, air conditioner, TV set), but also with almost everything you need for cooking. Small private courtyard in front of the trailer, free bycicles and we even got a small inflatable pool for the baby. The scenary was almost like in my most beautiful dreams, with palm trees, hybiscus, song of cycadas, crabs and shellfish of all sizes, coral sand, and crystal clear, warm sea. Information concerning the trailer (garbage, locks and so on) was illustrated, so very easy to understand.

People are very friendly and helpful (but speaking Japanese IS a great help), and tropical fruit delicious and cheap. Our host at Kame House and the people in the rental shop were so kind and took such a good care of us, that indeed we got one dream holiday. I am grateful to them all and I hope from all my heart I will return some day.

Kame House

July 9, 2004   Kame House     Location: Ishigaki Island, Okinawa

We enjoyed the American camping trailer on Ishigaki Island very much. The owner was very friendly and everything was neat and clean. The only weird thing was the bathroom. Someone had taken on the smaller American toilet and put in a huge Japanese western toilet. We had to stand in the hallway and lean over the toilet in order to brush our teeth because there was no place at all to stand in the bathroom. When we sat on the toilet we had to put our feet in the shower. Well, it was weird, but the queen size bed and the air conditioning and the low price made it well worth the inconvenience of the bathroom. We would stay there again.

Thank you for your help in getting a place to stay and a car to drive. Both worked well and we enjoyed our trip. Sincerely,

Oyado (Inn) EKUHASHI

June 23, 2004   Oyado (Inn) EKUHASHI     Location: Nemuro, Hokkaido

This hotel was one of the best we stayed at in Hokkaido. The friendly welcome and helpful owner helped us make the best of the limited time we had in the Nemuro area. The meals were excellent and worth the trip to the far end of the island.

As regards the booking process it was very straight forward but would benefit from a map of the location in every case. Here we asked for directions at the local information desk which was not correctly understood with our little japanese language.

Narita Excel Hotel Tokyu

June 22, 2004   Narita Excel Hotel Tokyu     Location: Narita, Chiba

Although it was not in the middle of Tokyo, the Narita Excel had its perks. They had a free shuttle bus to and from the airport. We stayed at the hotel on our last day in Japan. It was easy to get to, and we made sure we wouldn't miss our flight. I wish I could have stayed longer to enjoy the sauna, spa, and swimming pools. The buffet dinner was excellent and affordable as well. I would stay at this hotel again!

The location of the hotel was very convenient; it was near all the trendy alley shops and a walks away from most bus stops. The rooms look exactly like the pictures on the ToCoo! Travel website. I can't say enough good things about Ryokan Omori. The staff was friendly and helpful and even though we spoke little Japanese and they spoke little English, we managed just fine and had fun doing it. The room was the most beautiful I had in Japan, and I could easily have moved in. The reception with tea made in our rooms, to the massage in my room, to the delicious Japanese breakfast served in our room - absolutely everything was amazing. Thanks so much for facilitating the process for us. It was worth every yen!

Hotel Nikko Chitose

June 14, 2004   Hotel Nikko Chitose     Location: Chitose, Hokkaido

The Hotel Nikko Chitose was great. I was surprised to have it in the middle of an outlet shopping mall. Using the train to get to central Otaru was easy. We thoroughly enjoyed the area and hotel. You were prompt with reservations which made the planning much easier. I do wish you had more ryokans and minchikus listed. The traditional Japanese inns are much more fun, but I do realize that most Westerners don't like the idea of a futon and the toilet and bath down the hall. I prefer the smaller inns because it gives me a chance to practice my poor Japanese and maybe make new friends along the way.

I've just stayed 3 days in Kyoto Royal Hotel via Club Tocoo. I enjoyed very much the fabulous saving and the nice hotel. Modern rooms, friendly staff, well maintained and the location is just perfect!!! Best choice in Kyoto in my opinion, just one thing: be careful with international calls from your hotel room: the hotel charges enormous amounts, four times as much as other hotels I've stayed at my trip like ANA Hotel Tokyo or Tokyu Hotel Nagoya.

I recently stayed at Ryokan Omori with my wife, and we were very impressed. The hotel staff was very friendly and tried very hard to help us, although I speak very little Japanese. If we return to Kanazawa, I would definitely stay at Ryokan Omori again.

NY Cafe-style Inn, Marty Mouse

May 29, 2004   NY Cafe-style Inn, Marty Mouse    Location: Izu Peninsula, Shizuoka

Staff are very friendly and accommodating, not to mention hip. Pioneering what will hopefully be a trend of fusion for hotels, this Inn combines the convenience and comfort of a traditional ryokan with modern style and entertaining games (dart players take note) and music. Another plus: the private onsen allowing only one (person/couple/group) at a time--no strangers. I highly recommend this inn for anyone wanting to enjoy time spent both inside and outside while vacationing in Izu.

I really enjoyed my stay there as the Jpanese-style rooms are really large and comfortable and yes you can trust the pictures with the view from the rooftop onsen as I was lucky enough to have a fair weather the morning my overnight stay was to end.

A recommendation to all travelers there: don't hesitate to rise early morning as the best views of Fuji-San can be enjoyed before there is too much moisture up in the air and before it gets too cloudy (of course that does also depends on the weather and season).

Very well situated inn and really conveniently situated to all activities and a very reasonable price-a good bet for any traveler.

Dotonbori Hotel

May 26, 2004   Dotonbori Hotel    Location: Namba, Osaka

I thank you again for the reservation made at Dotonbori Hotel during our stay at Osaka. The room was available in a few minutes when we checked in. But the room did made me disappointed because it was just a twin room with a additional bed placed between two bed (we even cannot place our legs between two bed). That made us had no more spaces inside the room during our stay. I did expected the room should had enough space for this extra bed. The amenities inside was o.k. The hotel also situated in a good and convenience street which very accessible to all points. In a word, the hotel was quite a good choose except the room size for 3 person.

Kyoto White Hotel

May 17, 2004   Kyoto White Hotel    Location: Kyoto City, Kyoto

Hello, for the most part it was OK. Three things were disturbing to me.
1) No bath towel to dry off with
2) The pillow was hard and thick so it was too high
3) She asked for cash up front for all 5 days the moment I checked in.

One comment I would like to make is that as a tourist traveling I did not bring a bath towel. In America bath towels are provided by the hotel. It was a surprise to me when I found out that a bath towel was not provided at The Kyoto White hotel. I had to ask for one. It was provided the next day as well but then after that it stopped. Being 6 feet tall and having only the thin towel provided for the hot bath I had no way to dry off after my bath.

Next was the pillow. It was too thick and hard making it impossible for me to use. I asked for a thin one. The woman at the front desk in the morning said they had none. The boy at night gladly gave me one. He was very ingenious as he took a seat cushion folded it in half, and put a pillow case over it. I ended up buying a small feather pillow at a department store on the 3rd day so I could sleep.

Last the payment for all 5 days in advance. Luckily I had changed US dollars for yen at the Narita airport. If I had not done that I would not have had any yen. I had only 20,000 yen but the bill was a little more than this, which I paid the next day. The problem was I had no cash to get food. My 1st morning in Japan I was very hungry for breakfast but I had no cash as the hotel took it all. The woman at the hotel desk knew she took all my cash as she saw my wallet and I gave her everything I had. I was walking around waiting for a bank to open while starving.

I have to say I will not stay at this hotel again. And the next time I visit Japan I'll be sure to bring a pillow and towel and exchange enough money at the airport for the hotel and food.

Dotonbori Hotel

May 14, 2004   Dotonbori Hotel    Location: Namba, Osaka

We manage to booked in to Dotonbori in minami area exactly 3 mins walk from Namba station. Hotel is at the center of shopping district. The semi double room is fantastic (Ask for a no smoking room). The moment you walk into the room you experience the clean & pleasant air. The feeling of this small room is sufficient and the toilet shower room is small but extremely clean & tidy. After shopping, we have the time to use the free inhouse internet service to send, receive mail and make room bookings in other Kansai parts like Kyoto & Kobe via Tocoo Web. Luckily the hotel provides us an international call card buying machine and card phone for us to call home.

The breadfast is good and you must not missed it. Booked your B/F the night before and you pay only 600 yen instead of 800 yen. .

Thank you to the staff who are so helpful and help us out with valuable information on transport & sightseeing places.

The transportation/connection to airport is pretty good, but there's really nothing one can see near the hotel.. so booking for at most 1 night is perhaps a better decision. The hotel itself has a pretty good comfort. I had a double room, though reserved a single one.. so I cannot complain.

My stay at the Pension Beads Tree was wonderful! The room was very nice, albeit a little antique. The owners are very nice and even lent us a flashlight when we went out for a stroll. One recommendation is to take the dinner and breakfast at the pension as there is nowhere to eat in the area around the pension. Other than that I highly recommend staying there! The hotel was a great addition to my "mawari kippu" or 4 day pass to use all trains and buses in the ISE area for only 9300yen(90$US).

May 1, 2004   Hotel Los Inn Kochi    Location: Kochi City, Kochi

My fiance and I stayed at Los Inn Kochi for 2 nights during the peak travel season of Golden Week. The hotel was very close to the station and easy to find. The staff were all friendly and the hotel was clean and comfortable. We arrived about 6 hours early, but the staff were happy to see us, took our bags, and lent us some old bicycles to use at no extra charge. Our room was tiny, but it had a bathroom, fridge, desk, and TV, and we could have breakfast near the lobby for a small fee. We could walk to the center of Kochi City in 10 minutes. I'd definately recommend Los Inn to anyone looking for a clean, comfortable, and cheap place to sleep in Kochi City.

The Skycourt is a pleasant hotel. The staff were, without exception, helpful and professional. I would stay at the hotel again and I would recommend Club Tocoo to friends and family.

My only problem was the very late check in time of 4pm. My overnight plane had arrived at Narita at about 10am so it was difficult not having access to my room until 4pm. This is not a criticism of the SKycourt since I know this is a common with japanese hotel.

Kawaguchi-ko lake Station Inn

April 28, 2004   Kawaguchi-ko lake Station Inn    Location: Kawaguchi-ko Lake, Yamanashi

Kawaguchi-ko Lake Station Inn was a nice experience. Japanese-style rooms, tatami and onsen fit well to the beautiful view of Fuji-san. Kawaguchi-ko itself may be busy in summer time, but at the end of April it was hard to find some entertainment or open restaurants. The best ones were door to door with the hotel. Traveling to Kawaguchi-ko takes some time (2hour from Tokio-Shinjuku), but approaching to the Fuji-area by the slow-driving private train was quite beautiful. Another must in Kawaguchi-ko is climbing a hill (or using the ropeway) to get the marvelous view of Fuji and lake.

Fuku-zukushi Kyo-ya

April 28, 2004   Fuku-zukushi Kyo-ya    Location: Kawazu-mine Onsen, Shizuoka

The hotel has far exceeded my expectations. Having stayed in about ten Japanese ryokans (some of them quite expensive) in the past seven years, I conclude that Fuku-zukushi Kyo-ya offers by far the best value. But it is not simply the matter of relatively low cost. It is that the place is truly beautiful--spacious, sunny, and warm. Beautiful design, beautiful, a bit eclectic, and very artistic atmosphere. Beautiful and delicious food. And it is run by beautiful (and friendly) artists. I only I wish I could stay longer.

Kyoto White Hotel April 23, 2004   Kyoto White Hotel    Location: Kyoto City, Kyoto

I did enjoy my stay in the Koyoto White Hotel and the city itself. It was a nice visit. The comments, if any, are to do with the ability of the staff communicating in English and other written information in the hotel and the room. I found it was not easy to communicate with the staff in the hotel as I only speak English. It would be better to have your affiliated hotel listed according to the English competency and not recommend hotel such as Kyoto White to for example Americans, or British. Also, the information sheets in the room are not allbi-lingual which should be easily fixed.

However, I have enjoyed my two days at Kyoto White, because I particularly liked to experience the Japanese living style. I have got it.

Isahaya Park Inn

April 21, 2004   Isahaya Park Inn    Location: Isahaya, Nagasaki

Isahaya Park Inn Hotel is a bit old-fashioned, but the rooms are clean and very spacious compared to other low-price rooms. Breakfast was the best we had throughout our tour (except those times we prepared it ourselves). The hotel cannot be found by the map given by the hotel. Please try to provide a better one. If you come to Isahaya, please be sure to understand some Japanese words, otherwise getting lunch or dinner will be a bit complicated. The connection to Nagasaki is good, about 20 or 30 min. by train.

Daiya Ryokan

April 20, 2004   Daiya Ryokan    Location: Kyoto City, Kyoto

The Daiya Ryokan gave us a real traditional Japanese experience and Mama San and her staff could not have been more friendly and helpful...it was almost like living in a rather chaotic family home and incredible value for money. The room was good and although some of the areas were a little run down there was a western loo and plenty of hot water at all times. also worth a mention is the noodle bar attached to the inn. we had not opted for the meal package because of travelling commitments but the food was incredibly good and cheap ..don't be put off by the surroundings!!!

Sazanami Inn

April 15, 2004   Sazanami Inn    Location: Setoda, Hiroshima

Sazanami Inn in Sedota Island was by far the most authentic to staying in a old style Japanese home. The innkeeper was quite charming, and the meals were native to the area. It was not quite what we expected, and probably not one we would reccommend for many foreigners.

People's Inn Hanakomichi

April 14, 2004   People's Inn Hanakomichi    Location: Nara-city, Nara

The People's Inn Hanakomichi was a little hard to find because it was written in very small characters. It was however clean and convenient to the sights in Nara.

Kyoto Royal Hotel

April 14, 2004   Kyoto Royal Hotel    Location: Kyoto City, Kyoto

We had a great stay at the Kyoto Royal Hotel. It was wonderful to have such a great saving on the rooms. The hotel was in a great location for sightseeing and was extremely comfortable. The only couple of things that were not so good were:

1) We could have had a baby cot for no extra charge. It would have been nice to know about this in advance - it was not offered to us as an option at the time of reservation.

2) The Japanese restaurant on the top floor of the hotel ran out of many of the dishes on the menu, which meant that we had to choose a much more expensive menu than we would have liked. This was a pain as were unable to leave the hotel and go elsewhere due to our baby being asleep in our room.

Kind regards.

Kyoto White Hotel

April 11, 2004   Kyoto White Hotel    Location: Kyoto City, Kyoto

We had a very nice stay at the Kyoto White Hotel. The location was fantastic since only a 3 minute walk from the train station. The cost was very reasonable and the hotel staff extremely polite and efficient. Our room was small, but was quite adequate. Thank you for making this arrangement for us!

Kyoto White Hotel April 9, 2004   Fujiya Hotel     Location: Hakone, Kanagawa

Regarding the Fujiya Hotel, I found that it was a pleasant stay, but certainly the hotel could use some updating , particularly in the public areas. The restaurant was very nice though. (We did stop by the Hakone Hotel, which was our first choice, and that really seemed like a beautiful place).

Overall, very happy with your service and look forward to using you again on another trip.

Oshino Kogen Hotel

April 9, 2004   Oshino Kogen Hotel    Location: Oshino, Yamanashi

We were delighted with the Oshino-kogen hotel. Having stayed in Tokyo for the first part of our stay in Japan, we were keen to get out into the country a bit, and being so close to Mt. Fuji, Oshino seemed a wonderful place to go.

The ryokan itself was well-kept, with spacious rooms (although it was a little cold). The mattresses laid out on the tatami mats were comfortable, and we had a small table in our room to sit around. In the corridors were lovely wall-hangings and flowers. The breakfast room was very cosy, with a proper fireplace. They ryokan also had a sauna room, and traditional Japanese Onsen baths, which was pure bliss after our travels!

As we experienced with all our hosts in Japan, the lady owner was incredibly welcoming and kind - she gave us a local guide map and even rang to find out the times of buses and trains for the onward part of our journey, and cooked us a wonderful traditional meal in the evening. I would be grateful if you could pass on our appreciation to her.

The location is amazing - from the bridge outside there is an amazing view of Mt. Fuji, and the owner has details of many local birds and wildlife that you can see from walks in the local area.

This was our first visit to Japan from the UK, and I would definitely recommend both ToCoo! Travel and the Oshino-Kogen ryokan to anybody who wants a friendly, traditional Japanese Ryokan near to Mt. Fuji.

Regards and thanks,

Hotel Sunnide Village

April 8, 2004   Hotel Sunnide Village    Location: Kawaguchi-ko Lake, Yamanashi

Of all the places we booked with Club Tocoo, I feel Sunnide Village was the best. Although we missed out on the dinner, we thoroughly enjoyed the morning view of Mt. Fuji. The breakfast buffet was the best!

Pension Beads Tree

April 7, 2004   Pension Beads Tree     Location: Ise Shima, Mie

We spent two nights at the Pension Beads Tree, April 7th and 8th. We were on a week long vacation driving from Tokyo to Iwakuni/Hiroshima. We spent 8 days and 7 nights on the road. Pension Beads Tree was the BEST place we stayed on the whole trip! The pension is quite like a Bed and Breakfast in the US. The owners were very friendly and tried very hard to speak to us in only English. We had several meals at the pension. We had western style breakfast, which was plentiful! Dinner was exceptional! Each coarse was served separately and the presentation was lovely. We thought that the pension was very affordable. The building itself is quite spacious and just as comfortable as home! The furnishings and decorations made us want to spend more time at the pension than out seeing the local sights. I have recommended this pension to many many people since we have returned. I hope that someday my family can stay at Pension Beads Tree again.

Kawaguchi-ko lake Station Inn

March 30, 2004   Kawaguchi-ko lake Station Inn    Location: Kawaguchi-ko Lake, Yamanashi

Kawaguchi-ko lake Station Inn was a substitute accomodation when our first choice was fully booked and our second choice was double booked. Subsequently it was not quite the hotel we expected. It has a rotemburo, but really it's not a rotemburo, just an ofuro with an openable window. The views of Mt Fuji are there, but you don't necessarily get one from your room. The other problem is that it is really just a youth hostel set up, and because it's next to the bus and train interchange it's incredibly noisy. It is a long walk to the lake, and almost impossible to find anything nearby to eat dinner, about a 20 minute walk to the nearest open restaurant at 7pm.

This hotel would be perfect for a backpacker needing a cheap accomodation for stopping over in Kawaguchiko. I would not stay here again, but it was a roof over my head for a night, and for that at least I am grateful.

Oshino-kogen Hotel

Mar. 29, 2004   Oshino-kogen Hotel    Location: Oshino, Yamanashi

The Oshino Kogen Hotel is a very reasonably priced ryokan. It was quaint. We were greeted by a very friendly dog. We had some trouble finding someone to help us check in at 7PM on a Sunday night, but otherwise, we had a comfortable stay. I don't think much has changed there over the years. The room was clean and comfortable. The owners gave us walking directions to the local scenic wonders, some lovely deep clear ponds of spring water full of colorful fish and eel grass. Be sure to walk alongside the nearby river to reach the ponds, rather than alongside the busy narrow road. Our car's battery died, and the owner kindly helped us using his car and booster cables. Much appreciated!

Daiya Ryokan vspace=

March 29, 2004   Daiya Ryokan    Location: Kyoto City, Kyoto

As I was planning a longer travel together with my family, we had to find an affordable place to stay at. Daiya Ryokan is located near Kyoto station and certainly a good bet, if you want to save money and experience something near like a Japanese homestay. There is only one bath and you have to brush your teeth on a corridor. But somehow this place has got a very familiar atmosphere. The owner is a nice lady and she gave us a breakfast for free the day when we left! That was really kind of her! Near the hotel are the Higashi Honganji temple and a beautiful little garden, which was very nice for cherryblossom viewing. I can recommend Daiya Ryokan for students and other persons who prefer to spend their money on "o-miyage" than on overpriced hotels!

Kyoto White Hotel

March 28, 2004   Kyoto White Hotel    Location: Kyoto City, Kyoto

We had a Japanese Style room at the Kyoto White Hotel, where we stayed for 3 days. Although my father and brother were not used to sleep on "futon", they enjoyed it and slept very well. The hotel is near the station, but in a quiet area. The public bath was small, but very relaxing! We found it funny, that the entrance was illuminated like a Christmas tree!

NY Cafe-style Inn, Marty Mouse

Mar. 27, 2004   NY Cafe-style Inn, Marty Mouse    Location: Izu Peninsula, Shizuoka

The Marty Mouse was excellent! The room was very cute and cozy!

The common bath was nice. We were able to use it privately, which is something most Americans would enjoy, since taking a bath with strangers is uncomfortable, I think. My boyfriend thought the size of the meals were too small for the price. I would agree, but I have been living in Japan for a couple of months so I`m used to it.

Overall, I enjoyed everything.

Fuku-zukushi Kyo-ya

Mar. 23, 2004   Fuku-zukushi Kyo-ya    Location: Kawazu-mine Onsen, Shizuoka

This Ryokan is very comfortable and clean, but not too easy to find. When you get off from the Kawazu station, you are advised to take the cab. It's about 700-800 Yen. They are pretty strict with the check in time. We arrived just 2 hrs earlier and could not check in. My boyfriend and I went there with no knowledge of the Japanese language. Being that Kawazu is a rural village, we did find a bit of a difficulty communicating there. We decided to book this place because it said there would be an english speaking staffed stationed, but that was a bit deceiving. The owner barely spoke english, but we managed. The onsen was very nice and the staff was very friendly. We had the onsen all to ourselves because we went during off season. The owner spent a lot of time making us feel comfortable. He even drove us to a nearby carnation farm to tour around. I would say this was! a good decision.

Guest House Nonaka was great. Conveniently located, friendly, clean, quiet, comfortable. The staff don't really speak English, but that wasn't a problem for me. They were helpful and friendly. We enjoyed our two nights accomodation here, and would definitely stay here again. Thank you Guest House Nonaka!

Tsuribashi-so

Mar. 22, 2004   Tsuribashi-so    Location: Izu Peninsula, Shizuoka

Our one day at Tsuribashi-so was everything I had hoped it would be. This was our first visit to an onsen and were apprehensive about the customs of onsen use but everything was fine. The food was excellent and the service was very good. Our lack of Japanese language skills was a small problem but another guest was happy to help us. We wish we had time to stay another night. My only criticism would be to have larger slippers available. This is a problem all over Japan.

Onsen Minshuku Odoriko

Mar. 19, 2004   Onsen Minshuku Odoriko     Location: Higashi Izu, Shizuoka

We want to say that we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves very much during our stay at the Onsen Minshuku Odoriko! As we cannot speak Japanese at all, we apologize for not being able to recall the names of the owners. All apologies!! Sumimasen!!

As for the Onsen, it was PERFECT! The Onsen's balcony had a beautiful view of the sea, and since it was located on the side of a mountain, it made the view even more dramatic and awesome. The owner couple and their son were very helpful, friendly, and accomodating! We were treated very well, and left on our own when needed for our privacy.

The in-house meals were well-prepared by the couple. Breakfast and dinner was excellent; it gave us a culinary taste of Japanese traditional cuisine. Rice, cooked fish, sashimi, miso soup, pickles, green tea along with quiet classical western/Japanese (koto) music piped in from their stereo set.

The children's meals were also colourful as the couple ensured that there was sausages, raisins, etc. that were more suited for children's taste buds.

One evening we were even treated to a few classical pieces as the owner's wife was able to play the piano!!

The decor of the Onsen was simple and comfortable. We felt at home in the place.

As for the Onsen's bath (ofuro), the hot bath was also fantastic. We were thoroughly refreshed by soaking in the hot bath. We miss having hot baths now that we are back in Singapore.

On the whole, we would like to thank ToCoo! Travel once again. We would like to extend our thanks to the Onsen's owners. Please convey this message to them so that they can fully appreciate our gratitude for making our stay memorable and enjoyable.

We hope to use ToCoo! Travel again, and would hope to meet the owners once again in the future.

Oshino-kogen Hotel

Mar. 11, 2004   Oshino-kogen Hotel     Location: Oshino, Yamanashi

The people were very friendly and helpful. We could not speak Japanese while the owner could not speak English, but she was very helpful and resourceful by using the online dictionary, or sometimes by calling her daughter (who lived away) to interpret. There were also almost daily treats of fruits or local cakes given on our way out for our sightseeing walks. So sweet and thoughtful.

We found the location rather isolated (but fortunately, there was free pick-up from the train station) and far from Yamanaka-ko, the lake which we intended to visit. However, being amidst the eight hot-springs, and in-between Yamanaka-ko and Kawaguchi-ko, it may be suitable for tourists who plan to visit these places. The surroundings of the inn though, were very tranquil and refreshing.

Vintage Club

Mar. 6, 2004   Vintage Club    Location: Nasu-kogen Plateau, Tochigi

Dear ToCoo! Travel ,
I was looking for a quiet getaway and Vintage Club was just perfect. The dinner was a feast and I LOVED the roten buros (outdoor baths). It was a wonderful place for relaxing. The owner, his family and the staff of Vintage Club were all quite friendly. The owner was even kind enough to help me plan my activities in the area and make arrangements for me. It is a very nice place and I would stay there again.

The ToCoo! Travel staff made my reservation very quickly and also answered some of my extra questions. The whole process was very easy and convenient.

Narita Excel Hotel Tokyu

Mar. 4, 2004   Narita Excel Hotel Tokyu    Location: Narita, Chiba

Excellent service by steering me to the hotel I needed for me and my 23 fellow travellers, and near the airport to a hotel that featured pleasant accommodations, but great shuttle service to the airport and Narita as well. If that wasn't enough, ToCoo! Travel got me one price, then a better one. Very helpful, and thanks much.

The stay at the Semba Hotel was my first in Japan. The reservation process was swift and precise. I don't speak much Japanese, nevertheless I had almost no problem communicating with the hotel staff. Rooms were good (relative to price) and the location of the hotel in the near Shinsaibashi was excellent. All in all I can recommend ToCoo! I am from France and have been living in Japan for 4 years. I stayed at the Daiya Ryokan last week during a trip in the kansai region. Well, this ryokan is very well situated, close to the station and quite easy to find in a traditional quiet area. The ryokan itself is basic in terms of comfort.

Shoji Lake Hotel

Feb. 23, 2004   Shoji Lake Hotel    Location: Shoji-ko Lake, Yamanashi

Dear Club Tocoo Staff:

My parents and I had a fantastic time staying at Shoji Lake Hotel. We arrived at Kawaguchi-ko eki around noon time and got a chance to do a bit of sightseeing around Lake Kawaguchi before heading to the hotel. With Club Tocoo staff's directions on transportation from Tokyo to the hotel before arriving in Japan, we had no problem finding the hotel using the local transportation. It was very convenient, having the bus stop right in front of the hotel!

We arrived right before dinner time. Although it was nearly sun down, we could still see the image of the hotel, from across Lake Shoji, just like how it was shown on the Club Tocoo website. We were greeted warmly by the hotel staff upon our arrival. It was our final night staying in Japan of our 7-day tour.

The hotel staff gave us a brief tour of the hotel, including the indoor/outdoor onsen service. With a rainy storm, we were not able to enjoy a view of Mt. Fuji inside the dinning hall. However, our eyes were fixed on the bountiful feast that was presented to us. The food was unbelievably delicious. To top it off, there was even a very pleasant music in the background as we were giving our stomach a treat.

With the rain all night, we were not sure if we were going to be able to catch a glimpse of Mt. Fuji the next morning. Surprisingly, early next morning, the rain stopped and the sun came out. It was a gorgeous sunrise with the magnificent Mt. Fuji and the beautiful Lake Shoji view right outside of our hotel room window!! We enjoyed the lovely, relaxing outdoor onsen with a view of Mt. Fuji before breakfast. The breakfast was just as bountiful and delicious as the dinner from the night before. We could see the view of Mt. Fuji right from the dinning hall too! It was sad to only have the time to stay one night at Lake Shoji Hotel. The hotel staff gave as a very sincere welcoming and departing. The night at Lake Shoji Hotel definitely was the highlight of our first visit to Japan!

p.s. Upon our departure from Japan and arrival to our next travel destination, Taiwan, I realized that I had accidently left my necklace in the dressing room when I was at the Lake Shoji Hotel's outdoor onsen. With the help of ToCoo! Travel staff, they were able to contact the hotel immediately. The hotel staff found my necklace and sent it to me. I'm very grateful for the incredible professional service that ToCoo! Travel and Lake Shoji Hotel had provided. Thank you!

Chikusen-tei Izumi-so

Feb. 20, 2004   Chikusen-tei Izumi-so    Location: Asama-onsen, Nagano

Staying at Chikusen-tei Izumi-so is a pleasure. We're welcomed in the spacious lobby by a very helpful staff. Although we don't speak any Japanese, they took the time to explain us all we needed to know about the room, the baths and the meals. The room is clean and comfortable, with some little surprises that make your stay even more pleasant, like the small Tangram puzzle to play with, or the kimonos in different sizes, complete with an extra stylish jacket to dress off. Also the little name tags outside our bedroom and at the entrance of our dining room are good examples of the personal attention one receives in this ryokan. The food is excellent, both dinner and breakfast were delicious. And every time we enjoyed the treasures of the Japanese kitchen, our room was prepared for the next part of the day: beds out during dinner, beds stored again during breakfast. That's what we call Service.

When we had to leave, the complete staff walked us out and said goodbye while we took the taxi back to Matsumoto station. Hospitality at its best.

The Manza Onsen Hotel is great. We like the milky onsen very much. The first day we arrived late, thanks so much for the staffs there who has already reserved us the dinner. And the food is very natural taken form the local area, that gave us a unique experience. Moreover, most of the staffs there can speak English, that is amazing because we do not speak Japanese. We have no problem at all staying there.

Hotel Otemae Work View Feb. 13, 2004   Hotel Otemae Work View    Location: Osaka

It is indeed the third time I am using your services. I failed to give you some comments the first time, and I regret it, because the hotel's owner in Izu was very kind.

For this trip to Osaka, the booking was not easy, and I wasn't able to stay at the first hotel I made a reservation at because it was fully booked. The staff at Club Tacoo were very kind and, despite public holidays, immediately selected another hotel . This was quite fortunate, since I had never been to Osaka before and I would have difficulties to select a convenient location.

The hotel itself was friendly, conveniently located near Osaka station. Reasonnably confortable, with a good value-for money. I would definitely recommend it to any traveller. May be one critical point: it seems not possible to book the breakfast from the website.

Hi there,
I booked this hotel for myself(Australian) and a friend from London (Italian) so we could escape the city and enjoy the onsens. This hotel was absolute paradise. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. We almost had the entire hotel to ourselves so we felt very spoiled. The green tea bath was magnificent and the general area is just stunning.

The room was very comfortable and clean. I will certainly be using Club Toocoo again!
Thanks very much,

Houshi Kaikan

Jan. 24, 2004   Houshi Kaikan    Location: Nihonbashi, Tokyo

The stay at Hotel Houshi Kaikan was excellent. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were very clean and the whole experience for my family from Australia was very memorable. I would recommend this Hotel for any traveller wanting a genuine Japanese experience and to meet wonderful Japanese people.

I found out you can catch a JR train direct to Narita Airport from the subway on the corner of the Hotel block (Bokoracho) and this service runs hourly. This means if we had got it right when we arrived, we could have gone from Narita Airport direct to the hotel without changing to the Asakusa line via Higashi Namonbashi station. The actual hotel is a little tricky to find if you do not read Japanese as the entrance was obscured and we only found it by a staff member being out on the street at the time of arrival.

The location was very convenient and we visited the Ginza area, Akihabara area and the Imperial Palace - all in 2 days.

We will stay at Hotel Houshi Kaikan next time we visit Tokyo and would recommend the great people we met there to anyone.

Being in Japan for couple of months, I wanted to enjoy the beautiful scenenery of neon lights in its big cities. But there was one problem... they were expensive...
Before I found ToCoo! Travel I never believed that staying at City Hotels could be so cheap!

Upon arrival at the hotel, I was amazed by the room that they could provide us. Thinking that these rooms were going to be left over rooms I was amazed to find that they actually provided my girlfriend and I with a high quality guest room at an economical price! Thank god! And the view from this room was absolutely beautiful.

Thank you Tocoo! You are the best site I've seen in recent years!

Hello! Myself and my wife stayed in Tomiya Ryokan in Kyoto reserved through your service. We decided on a last minute note to visit Japan and when looking for affordable accommodation we were truly relieved to find your site and see the variety on offer. Unfortunately, because of the high season in late December, we couldn't find vacancies at a few places - but Tomyia ryokan was available from the first request. We loved the experience of sleeping in a traditional japanese home, our hosts were very nice and understanding and the view from our room towards the Kyoto Station Building was superb! Thank you and good luck! We'll get back to you for our next trip to your lovely country!

Hotel Yaegiku

Jan. 9, 2004   Hotel Yaegiku    Location: Dotombori, Osaka

I was very happy with Club Tocoo and the Hotel Yaegiku. The reservation process was very easy and quick. We were worried when our flight was delayed causing us to arrive in Osaka quite late at night. The latest that we could check into the hotel was midnight, so we were very nervous when our cab finally arrived at 12:20. We were very relieved when those automatic doors opened for us! The room was way better than the pictures on the internet!! The hot water was waiting for us to make tea, the kotatsu waiting for us to dive under. After travelling in Thailand for two weeks I was in bliss when I saw how large and deep the bathtub was, and unlimited hot water!! We slept like babies and didn't want to leave when the 11am checkout loomed....so we went down to ask how much a few hours would cost. Deciding against spending more money, we starting heading back to our room to get our bags. The front desk clerk (owner?) then came running after us telling us to stay for another hour for free!! This is exactly what two weary travellers needed!! Then they stored our luggage for 6 hours while we explored Osaka. The location is excellent and the staff spoke enough English to give us perfect directions to take the subway to Osaka station to continue our journey. I would definitely stay there again.

Hi, I have recently stayed at the Beppu Daiichi Hotel (27Dec-29Dec '03). It was a great affordable hotel with an excellent location, only a 3 minute walk to JR station. The room was clean & the bed was big, the hotel staff was polite & helpful at all times. Would strongly recommend for all Beppu stayers, despite the occassional noise from train (due to close proximity to JR station). Cheers

Hotel Excel Okayama

Dec. 26, 2003   Hotel Excel Okayama    Location: Ishizeki, Okayama

The Hotel Excel Okayama was about a 10-15 minute walk from the JR station, and if one does not want the exercise, the streetcar stop is about a block away, costs 100 yen and comes every 5-minutes or so. The hotel stands just across the street from the river between Okayama castle and Korakuen gardens, and my 9th floor room had a perfect view of Korakuen garden's forest, the river, bridge, and castle, which was beautifully lit up at night. From the first night until the last, I would come into my room after a day of sightseeing and open my curtains to look out at the greenly glowing Okayama-jo. The maid service in the room was perfect every day, and the desk staff were always very courteous.

Dec. 26, 2003   Gasthof Ami    Location: Nikko, Tochigi

We just enjoyed the hospitality of Gasthof Ami. It was our second trip we made using ToCoo! Travel It was a great room, and also great food. We even asked the owner to give us one of their salad recipes. We also enjoyed the rotenburo. We spent two lovely days, one with heavy snow and the other was sunny. We plan to enjoy Nikko again in another season. Cheers...

Tokyo Kiba Hotel

Dec. 19, 2003   Tokyo Kiba Hotel    Location: Kiba, Tokyo

We were very curious on Japanese capsule hotels so we decided to book this double capsule at the Tokyo Kiba Hotel for our short visit to Tokyo. It was a pleasant experience! The staff was helpful and kind, the bed was comfortable and spacious, and the bathrooms clean and there also was a relaxing hot bath!

The hotel was easy to find from the station, and there's a shopping center with nice food and a cinema right across the street. For our next stay in Tokyo, we'll sure be back here again!

NY Cafe-style Inn, Marty Mouse

Dec 14, 2003   NY Cafe-style Inn, Marty Mouse    Location: Izu Peninsula, Shizuoka

We were really priviledge with a very nice couple of days, sunny and bright, in Shimoda. At first we found the place a little hard to get to, as it is located on the top of a slope, and although they promissed a beach view, we could not see the beach that much. The sign is not very clear, mostly because of the logo of the place: hard to read.

We found the Inn quite good although simple, it looked more like an guest house than a hotel. It has a very unusual decoration, with bright colors: Blue, Pink and Yellow, even on the floor and ofuro! A bit weird, but I think young people may like it. But the room was spacious and had comfortable beds.

The onsen, that I doubt had natural instead of tap water, was a bit dissaponting, mainly to my friend - she is used to take ofuro baths very often, even in Brazil (she is nikkei) - because the water wasn't hot enough.

We were the only two guests at the place, but didn't feel lonely, because the owner kept entertaining us with all kinds of subjects, he is very talkative and sweet.

There were not many places to eat around, so we ordered dinner at the Inn, and didn't regret. The food was delicious!

Rinkai Hotel -- Ishizu

Dec. 8, 2003   Rinkai Hotel -- Ishizu    Location: Sakai, Osaka

The hotel was great and good rates as well! The proximity to the 1 minute walk railway station was an added bonus! The only "problem" I had was that when I returned to the hotel at the end of my holiday, I was not able to get the same rate of accommodation I did when I initially booked on line!

Oshino-kogen Hotel

The hotel was nice and clean but a bit far away from the attractions and transport to and from the hotel to town was not very frequent.

Kawaguchi-ko Lake Station Inn

Nov. 26, 2003   Kawaguchi-ko Lake Station Inn    Location: Kawaguchi, Yamanashi

I'm glad to be able to contribute some feedback on the Kawaguchi-ko Lake Station Inn. Well... overall we did enjoy the stay at the inn. It's pretty easy to locate and I would like to praise the Inn for their warm reception, as well as the clean and neat spacious room they had prepared for us, and especially the hot thermo flask, it really came in handy. Unfortunately, during our stay, we were unable to catch a glimpse of Mt. Fuji from our room due to the cloudy weather, so we can't give our opinion of the view from our room. We would definitely like to stay in Kawaguchi-ko Lake Station Inn if we're to visit again.

NY Cafe-style Inn, Marty Mouse

Oct. 31, 2003   NY Cafe-style Inn, Marty Mouse    Location: Izu Peninsula, Shizuoka

Both Shimoda and Marty Mouse have been excellent places. The hotel is nicely situated with great views over Maihama Beach, the rooms have been very comfortable, clean and decorated with lots of phantasy. The ofuro was splendid, and we were also allowed to use one of them as a family bath. Cooking was delicious, and all above together with the very friendly owners meant it was the best thing we could have done in an October. But we surely can recommend it for the remaing 11 months of the year, too!

Best regards

Semba City Hotel

Oct. 22, 2003   Semba City Hotel    Location: Shinsai-bashi, Osaka

We stayed at the Semba Hotel in Osaka. Everything went exactly according to plan; the booking-in process was faultless, the staff were very friendly and helpful and we felt entirely welcome. The value for money was excellent and the location was convenient. We would certainly recommend your service and the Semba Hotel.

The Semba Hotel was great, but is aimed at 'budget' travellers who want value for money, not 'class'. We would certainly use your services and the Semba again.

Oku-Nikko Konishi Hotel

Nov. 20, 2003   Oku-Nikko Konishi Hotel    Location: Nikko, Tochigi

My father and I enjoyed the Oku-Nikko Konishi Hotel, with its pretty lake and nice facilities. However, it was an expensive cab ride to the hotel from Nikko. We thought the hotel was in the city of Nikko!
